No Clean Feed - Stop Internet Censorship in Australia

sw'as

This interweb thing gets better every day.

It seems a day doesn't go by when I don't discover something new and wonderful on the internet and I'm very excited to be part of it all1. Here are some of the wonderful things I've discovered (or loved) recently:

Flickr logo

Ok, so I've known about and used Flickr for a while now, but I love it more and more every day. I'm loving it so much that my stingy arse is considering loosening just enough to let out the US$24.95 required to obtain a year's worth of expanded and enhanced Flickr goodness.

Veerle's blog logo

There is heaps of great design out there on the internet and it's hard to take in when you're like me; pretty good at the coding bit, but an amateur designer at best. So I'm constantly looking to learn and looking for inspiration. Veerle's blog design 2.0 is something to behold. What a great design (thanks Phu2).

Forget Foo logo

Forget foo is a brilliant showcase of nifty little site design ideas. To get the most out of it you will need to visit every day because it changes very frequently. On top of that, it's all interspersed with plenty of babes, I've become particularly partial to the Babe v. Babe posts.

last.fm logo

I just discovered last.fm today (and it's what prompted this post). I've been looking for something for ages that made it ridiculously easy to be introduced to new music. Previously I've been subscribed to a whole bunch of RSS feeds from music blogs. The minute I discovered how great last.fm is they were all immediately deleted from my Bloglines account.

The first thing I did when I got to last.fm was to give it the name of what I'm starting to consider my favourite band3 to see what it would suggest. Sure enough it suggested a whole bunch of bands I know I love, and a few I don't know much about at all. Digging a little deeper I discovered just how great last.fm really is. In the four hours I've been listening to Triple J Group Radio it has only spat out two songs I didn't enjoy 4. Seriously, go check out last.fm.

  1. Though only as a participant so far, really, not very much of a creator. []
  2. An I must apologise, because I spelt your name incorrectly last time I sent a ping your way. It's corrected in my post, feel free to correct it in the trackback. []
  3. I never really thought I could ever single one band out as a favourite, but every time I listen to the Eels it lifts my mood, something I can't say for any other band. []
  4. Ok, so it's not perfect, one of the songs was by Justin Timberlake, an artist every JJJ listener will know would never be played on the station. []

Since you're open to correction I thought I'd let you know that as a reader I doubt you are a manufacturer of the rotating part of dynamos, or the moving part of an electromagnetic device, or the piece of soft iron connecting the poles of a magnet! I'm thinking you meant amateur designer.

Also, if you're looking to be introduced to new music, Pandora (www.pandora.com) is an awesome service. I'm extremely impressed with how it works, and the selection of music it has chosen for me based on a single orginating artist or song. Check it out when you have time.

P.S. I'm from Brisbane too.
