The end.

Although I wouldn't have once, I now consider myself a swinging voter. I believe strongly that in today's political climate where it seems only a highly centrist political party will ever be elected to government, it simply doesn't make sense to have strong party allegiances. Being a swinging voter allows you to support the good deeds of a government, but reprimand them when they take things too far or forget that they should be accountable.

John Quiggin1 posted "John Howard: a political political obituary" which sums up my feelings about the Howard Government very well2.

In the end, it was fitting both that Howard should attain great political success, and that his career should end in humiliating defeat. His ability deserved the one, and his misdeeds the other.

  1. I does have to be said, that John's left leg is a fair bit shorter than his right, but unlike some other commentators, it doesn't seem to hinder his ability to see and comment on the good from the right and the bad from the left. []
